This handcrafted Reclining (Parinirvana) Buddha is carved in Bhainslana black marble from Rajasthan, a dense, near-black stone with no visible veining. It carries a deep mirror polish: light runs in broad, clean highlights along the shoulder, the robe folds and the curve of the hip, while the recesses fall to black, so the calm face and the rhythm of the drapery read clearly from across a space. At 5 feet long, it rests with calm, horizontal balance on a low plinth in a courtyard, a meditation hall or a hotel lobby, or beside a garden pathway under bamboo. Marble keeps a mirror polish best out of the rain, so for a garden choose a covered spot such as a verandah, a pergola or a courtyard under a roof.
