## The swaroop, and why the trunk turns right
Siddhatek stands on the north bank of the Bhima in Ahmednagar district, and its Siddhivinayak is the second halt on the Ashtavinayak circuit through Maharashtra. It is also the swaroop of the eight whose trunk turns to the deity's own right (ujavya sondecha Ganpati), so seen from the front the trunk sweeps across to your left. Devotees treat the right-turned form as the strict one: quick to grant, exacting about method, and traditionally installed where daily observance will actually be kept. This murti follows the Siddhatek image closely. Four arms, a deep potbelly, a single broken right tusk, a modak cupped in the lower hand, and the mushak at the base with his face turned up toward his lord. Riddhi and Siddhi stand small at either flank, hands folded, the way they attend him in the sanctum.

## What black stone does that a white marble cannot
Black stone has a long working life in Indian temple sculpture, chosen because it takes fine detail and holds a crisp edge across generations. It carries almost no veining, so the carved body reads as one continuous mass rather than a pattern travelling across it. That is why a heavily ornamented form like this one stays legible in dark stone where a figured marble would compete with its own jewellery. It also takes a deeper polish than most stones used for murtis. Here the surface is worked up through progressively finer abrasives to a full mirror polish, so the belly, the shoulders and the folded knee carry a long even sheen, while the crown, the necklaces and the lotus pedestal are left fractionally less worked so their cut edges keep their bite. The eyes are set with silver, a Maharashtrian habit that keeps the face present under lamplight.

## Sizing a 15-inch murti for a home mandir
At 15 inches tall the Siddhivinayak measures roughly 8 inches across and 7 deep and weighs about 11 kilograms, the band that fits an existing mandir shelf or a console rather than asking for floor space of its own. It reads at conversational distance, close enough that the broken tusk, the three-line tilak and the mushak all register, without needing a room built around it. A dark murti wants light falling across it rather than behind it, so a shelf with a lamp to one side does far more for the polish than a bright window at its back. East- or north-facing placement is the usual choice for Ganpati in a home mandir. And because this is the right-turned swaroop, settle the daily routine before you install it, as the form is traditionally taken on by households ready to keep it up.

## Make it yours
Every piece is made to order, so the size, the stone and the finish are decisions taken before anything is cut. This one is drawn at 15 inches in black stone with a mirror polish; the same Siddhatek form works at 9 inches for an office desk or at 30 inches for a floor-standing mandir, in Makrana white or Vietnam white marble if a pale murti suits the room better, and with a softer satin polish if a full mirror is more shine than you want. We design it with you, brief the master sculptor who will carve it, and follow the piece through inspection, packing and delivery to your door. Send us the shelf measurement and the direction it will face, and we will come back with drawings and a quote.
