## A standing Sai Baba, not a seated one

Shirdi's Sai Baba is most often met seated, whether on the Dwarkamai stone or on the singhasan of the Samadhi Mandir. This murti stands. Five feet from the top of the plinth, one foot forward, the satka held loosely at the left side, the right palm turned out at shoulder height in the gesture every devotee waits for. It is the form that suits a courtyard: a figure you walk up to rather than look down on, scaled so that an adult standing at the platform meets its gaze.

## Why Dholpur pink sandstone lives outdoors

The stone is Dholpur pink sandstone, quarried in eastern Rajasthan from the same beds that faced the Mughal forts. It is a warm pale blush-pink with a fine, even sandy grain. It is chosen here for one plain reason: it lives outdoors. Sandstone takes sun, monsoon and winter without the dulling that troubles polished marble in open air, and it weathers rather than degrades, the surface settling over years into something closer to the walls of an old temple than to a new object.

## How it is carved and set in your courtyard

The carving is worked by the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur, and it is cut for daylight rather than for a display case. The folds of the ankle-length kafni are broad and deliberately simplified so they hold their shadow at noon; the head cloth is wrapped and knotted over the left shoulder, its fall read in one clean plane. Detail concentrates where a standing devotee actually looks: the face, the raised palm, the bare feet at the plinth edge.

Set it on a raised stone platform, well above the paving, with clearance in front for arti and for garlanding. The broad square plinth is carved as part of the piece, so a mandir trust or a housing-society shrine can seat it on a masonry base with no bracket showing. Padukas, a small dhuni brazier, or a single stone step in front will finish the shrine.

Nothing here is stock. We design the piece with you (height, the depth of the folds, the plinth profile, whether the satka stands clear of the robe or against it), quote the stone and the carving, brief the sculptor, and follow the commission through to installation in your courtyard. Tell us the platform height you already have and we will scale the murti to it.
