## The stone

Marble dust composite is not quarried stone. It is crushed marble bound in resin and cast in a mould, then hand-finished and sanded back by the workshop. At nine inches that is the honest choice: a solid-marble murti of this form would price itself out of the gifting range, and the composite carries fine detail (the fold of a blanket over a shoulder, the crease across a raised palm) at a weight a cabin bag will take. The cast body reads a very even natural white with the faintest warm cream in it, finer and more uniform than quarried marble, and with no veining at all, because a cast body has nothing for a vein to run through. Finished to a soft satin polish, it holds light the way stone does rather than with the flat sheen of a moulded figurine. Roughly three kilos in the hand.

## The form

Neem Karoli Baba is shown as Kainchi Dham devotees know him. He sits cross-legged in easy sukhasana on a plain rectangular plinth, the right hand lifted palm-outward in ashirwad and the left resting open on the knee, bare feet drawn forward. He is bald and bare-headed, with no turban and no cloth over the head, and has a short trimmed grey beard and moustache, a heavy-set frame, and the faintly amused warmth that runs through every photograph ever taken of Maharaj-ji. The plaid blanket is drawn over both shoulders and wrapped around the torso, a white dhoti below. The iconography is held deliberately tight: this is not a Buddha and not Sai Baba, so there is no ushnisha, no monastic or saffron robe, no knotted head cloth, and never the lean ascetic body some workshops default to.

## The hand-painted blanket

The blanket is the only painted element, and the colour goes on by hand after the piece is cured and sanded: a woven check in blue, rust and navy laid on so the pattern follows the folds instead of sitting flat across them. Everything else stays in the natural stone white: the plinth, the dhoti, the hands, the face. That contrast is the point. On a shelf lit by a single diya the eye goes first to the check, then up to the raised palm, which is how this murti is meant to read. A painted surface on stone wants a dry cloth and nothing else (no water on the colour, no polish, no chemical cleaner), and it will hold its tone for years.

## Sizing it for your space

Nine inches is a shelf murti, not a floor piece. It sits comfortably on a compact household pooja shelf beside a diya and a framed photograph, and at roughly five inches across it will not crowd a small mandir that already holds other murtis. The size is also the reason it travels: this is the Neem Karoli Baba that goes into a suitcase for a devotee abroad, onto a hotel-room altar, or into someone's hands as a gift. Each piece is made to order in Jaipur, cast, hand-finished and hand-painted for the specific commission, and takes eight to twelve weeks from confirmation. Tell us the shades you want in the blanket check and they are matched at the painting stage.
