## The silver-clad doors
Both door leaves are faced in repoussé silver, which is sheet metal hammered from behind so the pattern rises in relief, then chased from the front to sharpen the detail. The motif is a scrolling vine of flowers and leaves growing out of a central kalash, the water pot that stands for abundance in Indian shrine ornament. A matching silver panel lines the rear wall of the sanctum, so the interior reads bright once the doors are opened for darshan. Cladding the entrance of a household shrine in silver is long-standing practice across Rajasthan and Gujarat, where the metal marks the threshold even when the shrine itself is stone. Silver darkens slowly as it ages; a soft cloth and ordinary silver polish bring the shine back, and the marble around it is left untouched by either.

## Makrana white marble, carved plain
The stone is Makrana white marble, quarried in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan and worked by Indian carvers for centuries, and it is the same marble the Taj Mahal was built from. It is dense and fine-grained, a natural white with the faintest warmth and thin grey hairline veins rather than heavy figuring. The carving around the silver is deliberately restrained: lotus-capital pillars, a scalloped cusped arch, a fluted dome closed with a finial, and shallow floral relief running across the lintel and the plinth. Ornament belongs to the metal on this piece, and the marble is the setting that holds it. Every surface is finished honed, a matte face that keeps the grain and the chisel work readable without throwing back hard reflections, which leaves the silver as the one bright element on the mandir.

## Fitting a 54-inch mandir into your home
At 54 inches tall, 30 inches wide and 15 inches deep, this is a floor-standing mandir rather than a tabletop one. It rests on its own stepped plinth and reaches roughly chest height on an adult, so the sanctum sits where aarti can be performed standing. The weight is about 95 kg, which a ground floor or a concrete slab carries without trouble; on an upper floor, set it against a load-bearing wall. Leave around 18 inches of clear space in front so both leaves swing fully open. The mandir ships without a murti, so the sanctum opening can be cut around the deity already in your home. Send the height of the murti and it is sized to suit. A warm LED strip tucked behind the arch lights the silver rear panel without glare.

## Making it yours
Every mandir is made to order, so the drawing starts from your wall rather than from a stock size. Makrana marble works from about 30 inches up to six feet, and the same design adapts to a single-door cabinet for a narrow alcove or to a wider three-part front for a dedicated pooja room. The silver can carry a different motif (peacocks, a lotus pool, a family emblem) or be left off in favour of jali-pierced marble leaves. Names and dates are often engraved into the plinth when the mandir is going out as a wedding or griha pravesh gift. We design it with you, brief the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur, and follow the piece through to your door. Send us a picture of the wall on WhatsApp and we will start from there.
