## The pair, and why they are given together

At weddings across North and West India, Lakshmi and Ganesha are given as one gift rather than two. Ganesha is invoked first at any beginning (a marriage, a new household, a first Diwali in a shared home), and Lakshmi follows as the presence a household hopes to keep. Setting the two of them on a single chowki says the same thing in stone. Here they sit side by side on one low square plinth, its edge banded with a running scroll and its corners resting on carved scroll feet. Ganesha is four-armed and potbellied and holds a modak, his trunk curving to his own left, the direction most families prefer for a murti that will live in a home rather than a temple. Lakshmi is also four-armed, seated on an open lotus, an unfurled bloom raised in each of her upper hands.

## Makrana marble at six inches

The set is cut from Makrana marble, quarried in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan and worked in Indian temple building for centuries; it is the stone of the Taj Mahal. Small carvings are unforgiving, which is why the choice of stone matters more here than it would at three feet. Makrana grain is fine, crystalline and compact, so an edge a few millimetres wide still takes a clean line: the beading on a crown, the fold of a pallu, the separate petals of Lakshmi's lotus. The master sculptors we work with rough out the mass with chisels and then finish every face, hand and crown by hand, closing with a soft satin polish rather than a mirror gloss. Satin keeps the detail readable at arm's length, where a mirror surface would throw light back and flatten the very carving a six-inch piece is judged on.

## The presentation box

The set is seated in a rigid presentation box lined in deep red, with a die-cut insert cut to hold the chowki so nothing shifts on the way, and a lid that lifts clear for the handover. The box is sourced and fitted to the piece rather than carved. The marble is the gift, and the case is what makes it practical to put that gift into a hundred hands in one evening. That matters more than it sounds at wedding scale, where sets are carried to a venue, stacked behind a stage and handed out in a queue. Once opened, the set lifts straight out and goes onto a shelf, a mandir step or a desk, and the box stores flat for anyone who wants to keep it.

## Ordering this pair, singly or in numbers

Six inches is the size that works for gifting this pair in volume: it sits in one hand, it needs no wall or shelf depth behind it, and a run of them travels to a venue in a single crate. We design each run with you: the chowki can carry an engraved line for the couple's names and the date, the figures can be scaled up for a principal gift to the couple's parents, and the same design can be cut in Vietnam white marble or black stone if you want a second tier that reads differently. If you are working to a wedding date, tell us the date first: a set may already be carved, in which case we ask, send you photographs of the actual piece, and there is no carving wait. A fresh commission of a carved murti set like this runs eight to twelve weeks. Message us on WhatsApp with your count and we will quote per set.
