## A 15-inch lingam from one block of Makrana marble

This 15-inch Shiva Lingam is hand-carved from a single block of Makrana white marble, from the same quarry that has supplied India's temple sculptors for centuries. The rounded lingam rises from a circular yoni base ringed with fine lotus-petal carving, and a discreet pranala spout channels away abhishekam offerings of water, milk and honey. At just over a foot tall, it is scaled for a home mandir rather than a temple sanctum.

The stone is worked to a soft matte finish that keeps the natural grain and faint grey veining of Makrana marble visible, so each piece carries the quiet character of the block it came from. The proportions follow traditional shastra guidance: a smooth, unbroken lingam form above a symmetrical yoni that reads clearly from every angle on the altar.

## Why Makrana stays cool, and commissioning your lingam

Makrana marble is prized for staying cool to the touch and resisting the wear of daily ritual bathing, which makes it a practical choice for a lingam that will be worshipped every morning. A light wipe after abhishekam keeps the surface clean; the matte finish hides water marks better than a high-gloss polish.

The compact size suits daily puja, and the piece comes into its own during Sawan and Mahashivratri, when the household lingam becomes the centre of abhishekam and night-long worship. It settles naturally into a pooja room, a dedicated Shiva altar, or a quiet corner shelf kept for meditation.

Each lingam is carved to order by our Makrana artisans, so minor variations in veining and petal detail are part of the handmade result rather than flaws.
