## Padmasana: a Buddha in snow-white Vietnam marble

Padmasana, the full lotus, with both feet drawn up onto the opposite thighs and hands settled in the lap, is the meditation posture most people picture when they picture a Buddha. What distinguishes this carving is the base: the lotus seat is not a separate tier under the figure but flows directly into the robe folds, so the seat and the seated form read as one continuous piece of stone.

It is carved in Vietnam white marble in its snow-white tone, a cool, bright, fine-crystalline stone. The coolness is a practical choice for a garden as much as an aesthetic one: warm-toned whites can turn yellowish under strong sun, while this holds a neutral white through the day. The surface is left matte with the natural grain visible so the chisel work and the crisp edges of the lotus petals stay legible.

## Where a 2ft Buddha sits, and commissioning yours

At 24 inches it is sized for an intimate setting rather than a grand one: a moss garden, a small courtyard, a balcony corner, or the end of a short path. It pairs naturally with a shallow water basin, which is a traditional arrangement and a practical one. The reflected light lifts the underside of the carving, where a seated figure is otherwise always in shadow.

Every piece is made to order. This one is carved for you by the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur. We develop the design with you, brief the sculptor, and follow it through to delivery at your door. The integrated lotus base can be carved on any size of seated Buddha, from a foot to over life size, and in Makrana white marble or black stone. Tell us about the space and we will quote it.
