## Why Vietnam white marble at temple scale

Vietnam white marble takes ornament better than almost any stone on a Jaipur workbench. It is a bright, cool-toned block with a fine crystalline grain that will hold a crown finial or a garland bead without crumbling at the edge. Quarried in Vietnam's Thanh Hoa belt and shipped out through Da Nang, it has been a working staple of Indian statue carving since the 2000s, valued for its even colour and for the way light sinks a millimetre into the surface before it comes back. At 42 inches the pair reads as a temple murti rather than a shelf ornament: full height, full weight, made to be dressed, garlanded and served.

## How each deity is carved, and the ISKCON arrangement

Each figure is carved for you by the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur, one block per deity. Rough cutting establishes the tribhanga sway and Radha's answering bend, then the forms come down through primary shaping, detail chiselling and progressive hand-polishing to a satin finish. Faces, the fingers along the flute, the jewellery chains and the beadwork of the garlands are all finished by hand, with no machine tooling going near them, and the twin lotus asanas are worked side by side so the petals mirror each other across the shared plinth. We design the piece with you, brief the sculptor, and follow the work through to installation.

The arrangement follows the Gaudiya Vaishnava deity convention that ISKCON temples made familiar worldwide. Krishna stands in tribhanga, the three-bend posture, flute raised and held in both hands; Radha stands at his left in a softer answering curve, one hand lifted. Both wear the tall kirita mukuta, layered necklaces and armlets, and long garlands falling past the knee, carved in stone but cut to hang the way a real tulsi mala hangs. Separate lotus pedestals on a single carved base keep the two murtis distinct while fixing the spacing between them for aarti and abhishek.

## Altar height, weight, and other sizes and stones

A 42-inch pair wants an altar platform around waist height, so the faces meet a standing devotee at eye level, and roughly four feet of clear wall behind for the halos to breathe. Side-window daylight or a soft downlight rakes across the carving and keeps the drapery folds legible; flat frontal light flattens them out. In a large home mandir, plan for the mass (near 50 kg with the base) on a masonry plinth or a bearing wall rather than a wooden shelf, and leave access at the sides for daily seva.

The same pair can be made shorter for a household shrine or taller for a main sanctum, in Makrana white marble or black stone instead of Vietnam white, with a plain plinth or a deeper carved one, and the base can carry an engraved family name or a pratishtha date. Send us your altar dimensions on WhatsApp and we will work the proportions around them.
