Set beside Makrana's warm cream it reads clean and slightly cool, closer to porcelain than to ivory, with a fine crystalline grain and only hairline grey veining. On a Sai Baba murti that matters more than it might elsewhere: the kafni robe is mostly broad, unbroken surface, and a heavily figured stone would fight the drapery instead of carrying it. ## How the Sai Baba murti is carved The piece is carved to order for you by the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur. Work moves from a rough block cut down to the seated silhouette, then the plinth and the fall of the robe, and only then the face and hands. The face, the raised palm and the folds gathered at the shoulder are finished entirely by hand with chisel, rasp, then a progressive hand polish taken to a satin sheen rather than a mirror, so light settles on the robe instead of skating off it. We design the piece with you, brief the sculptor, and stay with it through to delivery at your door. ## The Ashirwad blessing form The Ashirwad form is the one most Sai devotees picture: right hand raised palm-out at shoulder height in abhaya, the gesture of reassurance, left hand resting easy on the knee, right leg crossed over the left in the posture recorded of Baba at the Dwarkamai in Shirdi. The full-sleeved kafni robe and the head cloth knotted over the left shoulder are the identifying marks. Shirdi Sai is never shown bare-torsoed in meditation, and never as an anonymous sadhu. Those details are the whole difference between a Sai Baba and a generic ascetic figure. ## Sizing the 18-inch murti for your mandir At 18 inches the murti sits at the centre of a home mandir shelf without crowding the frames and diyas around it.
