The mood is one of contentment after worship: the elephant-headed remover of obstacles at ease in his own home. His four arms carry the familiar attributes — the raised palm of the abhaya mudra offering reassurance, the lotus, and a brimming bowl of modak, his beloved sweet — while his trunk curls softly toward the offering. At his feet sits the loyal mushak, his mouse companion, carved in the round. The piece is worked in Rajasthani pink marble quarried around Kishangarh in Rajasthan, the same warm blush-pink stone that gave the region's havelis and palaces their rosy glow. Unlike the cool cream of Makrana white or the porous matte of Dholpur sandstone, this marble reads as a soft, feminine rose-beige with gentle grey-and-rose veining drifting through the ground. A satin soft-polish finish keeps the surface luminous without turning glassy, so every carved fold of the dhoti, strand of the beaded necklace, and petal of the couch's lotus medallion stays legible. As a made-to-order studio, Tilak Mandirwala commissions each statue from independent master sculptors in Jaipur who carve by hand from a single block. The reclining composition is demanding — the extended legs, the draped cushion, and the free-standing mushak all test the carver's control of balance and undercut — and small, honest tool marks in the deepest recesses are the signature of genuine hand-work rather than a mould.
