The Raas Leela is the one Krishna story that refuses to stand still. Here it is held at its highest point: Krishna and Radha turning towards each other, upper hands clasped above their heads, lower hands joined between them, both caught up on the ball of one foot with the turn still travelling through their clothes. The odhani lifts off Radha's shoulder, Krishna's dhoti swings wide, and the long vanamala garland swings a beat behind the body — the small delays that tell your eye the figures are moving, not posing. Cast in marble dust composite, the piece takes a very fine, even grain with none of the veining a quarried block would bring — which suits a composition this busy, because nothing in the stone competes with the carved detail. Every fold border, bangle, anklet and lotus petal on the round base is worked by hand once the cast has cured, then brought to a soft satin polish that catches the light along the drapery edges without turning glassy. The composite is also why an 18-inch dancing pair stays liftable at roughly 16 kg; the same composition in solid marble would be half again as heavy. At 18 inches it reads best on a console, a sideboard or a wide shelf where you pass it at close range and catch the turn from more than one angle — the round base means there is no wrong side to it. Against a plain wall the outswung garments throw a clean silhouette. That makes it a living-room centrepiece rather than a mandir murti: this is Krishna in his most human, most joyful register, and it belongs in the room where people gather.
