What size Shiva Lingam should I choose for my home?

For a home pooja room, tradition favours a compact Lingam — commonly up to about 6 inches, which is easy to bathe and keep daily. For a larger pooja room or a dedicated mandir unit, 12–18 inches sits well and reads clearly from across the room. 24 inches and above suits a hall, a community mandir, or a courtyard shrine. Send us a photo of your spot on WhatsApp and we will suggest a height that fits.

Is the Lingam finished for daily abhishekam?

Yes. We finish the Lingam and yoni base for water abhishekam, with a smooth channel so water, milk, and panchamrit drain cleanly through the jaladhari spout — ideal for Sawan Somwar and Maha Shivratri worship. Wipe with a soft dry cloth after use and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on a natural-stone piece in active puja. We can advise on sealing if you want extra protection, especially on sandstone.

Should I choose black or white stone?

Both are traditional. Black is the classical sacred colour for Shiva and is what most temple and Rudrabhishek installations use — it also hides water staining well. Makrana white or Vietnam white is more common for home shrines and pairs naturally with a white marble mandir. We also carve in Dholpur pink sandstone, a warm matte stone that suits outdoor and courtyard shrines. Tell us your preference on WhatsApp before we start.

Which forms of Shiva Lingam can you carve?

All the traditional forms — a plain Lingam on a round or square yoni base, Panchmukhi (five faces of Shiva carved around the shaft), Ekmukhi Mukhalingam (a single face in relief), a Naga Lingam with a serpent canopy arching over it, a Janeudhari Lingam with the carved sacred thread, and a complete set with Nandi on his own plinth facing the deity. Share a reference image and we will carve that exact form.

How should the Lingam be placed and oriented?

Place the Lingam elevated — on an altar shelf, chowki, or plinth, never directly on the floor. By convention the jaladhari spout of the yoni base points north, so the devotee faces north or east while offering water. Leave enough clearance around the base to perform abhishekam comfortably without crowding other murtis. We carve the base with the spout oriented as you specify.

How long does a custom Shiva Lingam take?

Typically 6–10 weeks, depending on size and detail. A plain Lingam under 18 inches ships faster; a Panchmukhi, Naga-hooded, or a large temple-grade piece with a stepped yoni platform takes longer because of the fine carving. We share progress photos at each milestone so you stay involved.
