Handcrafted Marble Dust Shiva Lingam with Nandi Home-Shrine Set, 24in

Marble dust composite is a cast stone — crushed marble, much of it Makrana quarry off-cuts from Nagaur district, bound in resin and cured in moulds at workshops around Jaipur and the wider NCR belt. It reads as a natural white with the faintest cream undertone, finer and more even in grain than quarried marble, and at arm's length the difference is hard to pick. What it buys you is scale: a 24-inch lingam-and-Nandi set in solid Makrana sits in an altogether different price bracket. We are straight about what this is — a cast piece rather than a block piece, and one that belongs indoors, away from direct UV. Every set is made to order. The lingam and its yoni are formed as a single mass so the jaldhari spout runs clean off the rim with no visible joint; Nandi and his stepped plinth are made separately. Once cured, the independent sculptors we commission take over by hand — the lotus-petal collar beneath the yoni, the beaded band across Nandi's neck and the running scroll along the plinth edges are all worked with chisel and rasp, then carried through progressive sanding to a soft satin polish. None of the detail on the faces or the carved bands is left as the mould made it. The arrangement is really the point of this set. A lingam is complete only with its yoni, and a Shaiva shrine is complete only with Nandi — seated, facing in, set back a little rather than crowded against the base. Across temples in India the devotee takes darshan of the lingam over Nandi's shoulders, looking between the horns; the bull is at once vahana and doorkeeper, and he never turns away from Shiva. The spout drains to the north, the orientation followed in most household shrines. Allow roughly thirty inches of depth on the chowki or platform so Nandi can sit at his proper distance instead of nose-to-yoni — that gap is what makes the two pieces read as a shrine rather than two objects. The north-east corner is the established place for a household pooja space, with the lingam raised to about seated eye level. Nothing should stand over the lingam except a dhara patra during abhishek. The same set is made in solid Makrana white marble and in black marble if you want the heavier stone, and the lingam can be scaled from a 9-inch tabletop piece up to a temple-sized installation. A matching marble chowki, a wider yoni for abhishek drainage, or a family name engraved along the plinth can all be arranged at the time of order.
