Sai Baba sits here the way most devotees picture him: right leg crossed over the left knee, a hand resting easily on the foot, the kafni robe falling in soft folds, the head cloth wrapped and knotted over the left shoulder. The piece is cast in marble dust composite — crushed marble bound in resin, poured into a mould taken from a hand-modelled master and then finished by hand. It carries the weight, the cool touch and the fine white grain of quarried stone at a fraction of its cost, which is what makes it a practical choice for a first murti. The master sculptors we work with in Jaipur model the original in clay, take the mould from it, and finish every cast piece by hand — the eyes, the beard, the fingers and the lotus edging of the base are all worked with hand tools after the cast cures, never left as they come out of the mould. At 10 inches the detail that carries the whole murti is the face, so that is where the longest hand-finishing pass goes. The seated darshan form follows the marble murti enshrined at the Samadhi Mandir in Shirdi since 1954, which has shaped almost every Sai Baba murti made since. The full-sleeved kafni robe and the wrapped head cloth are what separate Baba from a generic ascetic figure — he is never shown bare-torsoed or folded into a formal meditation posture. The half-smile and the outward gaze are deliberate too: a darshan image looks back at whoever stands in front of it, rather than turning inward. Ten inches is the working size for a home altar — tall enough to hold the centre of a shelf, small enough to leave room for a diya, a photograph and a flower without crowding. It suits a mandir niche, a shelf in a study, or a counter shrine at a shop, and it travels easily if the altar moves house. Thursday, Baba's day, is when most homes dress it with a fresh garland; the integral lotus base needs no separate stand, and the flat underside sits steady on any level surface. The same form can be made taller for a larger mandir, or in Makrana white marble, Vietnam white marble or black stone if you would rather have quarried stone than cast composite.
