Ardhanarishvara, Shiva and Parvati in one body

Ardhanarishvara is the composite form in which Shiva and Parvati are united in a single body, split vertically down the centre — the right half the ascetic Shiva, the left half the adorned Parvati. It is one of the most philosophically loaded images in the Hindu tradition, a carved statement that the masculine and feminine, the still and the creative, are two faces of one indivisible reality. The stone is Vietnam White Marble, prized for its bright, neutral, slightly cool white — cleaner and brighter than the warm cream of Makrana, without the blue cast of Italian Carrara.
