About This Piece

Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati is Pune's most beloved and most photographed Ganesha, a form that draws millions of devotees during Ganeshotsav. This piece reimagines that iconic murti in dramatic jet-black marble — a bold, contemporary departure from the traditional gold-and-vermilion original that lets the gilded ornaments blaze against a deep, mirror-polished stone. Hand-carved by the master sculptors Tilak Mandirwala works with in Jaipur, the statue is finished to a high-gloss mirror polish so the black stone reflects light in long, seamless highlights along every curve of the potbelly, trunk and throne. The crown, necklaces, armlets, dhoti borders and singhasan detailing are then hand-applied in radiant 22k gold leaf, with jewelled cabochons set into the throne — the same layered adornment that makes the Pune deity so instantly recognisable. The iconography stays faithful throughout: a four-armed Ganpati holding a modak, one hand raised in the abhaya (blessing) gesture, the trunk curled toward the sweet, and the loyal mushak (mouse) seated attentively at the base. The whole form rests on a jewelled singhasan throne raised on a carved multi-tier plinth, keeping the deity elevated and dignified. At 21 inches, it sits comfortably as the centrepiece of a contemporary mandir, a console or a curated shelf, where its black-and-gold palette reads as luxury rather than tradition alone. It makes an exceptional statement piece for modern interiors and a memorable premium gift for a housewarming, wedding or milestone celebration. Every Tilak Mandirwala piece is made to order in collaboration with independent master carvers, so the finish, gold-leaf detailing and dimensions can be tailored to your space.
