Most Radha Krishna murtis leave the marble bare. This one is dressed. The 30-inch jugal jodi is carved in Makrana white marble by the master sculptors we work with, then handed to the shringar painters — Krishna finished in the deep blue of his own iconography, his pitambar dhoti laid in yellow with painted gold-zari borders, Radha at his left in a rose-pink lehenga edged in gold. Crowns, necklaces, armlets and the full-bloom lotus base carry real gold leaf. The eyes and tilak are painted last, by hand, and they are what give the pair their gaze. Painting a statue does not make the stone underneath irrelevant — it makes it matter more. Makrana marble is dense and closes tight under polish, so the ground coat sits on a surface with almost no porosity and the colour stays true instead of sinking in and going dull. The plinth beneath the lotus is deliberately left unpainted: a band of natural white marble that tells you, at a glance, what the piece is actually made of. At 30 inches the pair reads as the presiding murti of a home mandir rather than a shelf piece — tall enough to be garlanded and dressed for Janmashtami or Holi, compact enough to live in a pooja room in a flat. Families often choose the painted version for a wedding or a griha pravesh, because it arrives already looking celebrated rather than waiting to be. Painted and gilded surfaces are cared for differently from bare marble. Dust with a dry, soft cloth; keep water, oil and abrasive cleaners off the gold leaf; and set the murti back from the direct flame of a diya or an akhand jyot so the heat does not lift the colour over time.
