Handcrafted Makrana White Marble Radha Krishna Big Size Temple Pair, 4ft

This is a four-foot pair, and four feet changes what the piece is for. Below about thirty inches a Radha Krishna jodi is a shelf murti; at forty-eight inches on a stepped pedestal the deities meet a standing adult somewhere around eye level, which is the height a temple hall or a large mandir is actually built around. The proportions here are drawn for that distance — the crowns are taller, the garlands longer, the pedestal deliberately stepped so the figures read from the far end of a room rather than only from arm's length. The block is Makrana white marble from the Nagaur quarries in Rajasthan. At this scale the choice matters twice over: the stone has to be sound enough to come out of the ground in a piece this size without a fault line running through it, and fine-grained enough that the ornament does not turn to mush. Makrana is dense and close-grained, so the sculptor can undercut — cut behind the carving rather than only into it — which is why the garlands hang free of the chest and the sari border stands proud of the leg instead of being scratched onto a flat surface. Krishna stands in tribhanga, the three-bend stance, flute at his lips and a full kirita mukuta rising above a carved halo. Radha stands at his left at matched height, one hand raised, crowned and jewelled to the same weight of detail — in the jugal jodi neither figure is an attendant to the other, and at temple scale any imbalance between them shows immediately. Both wear the deep-cut ornament a hall piece needs: layered necklaces, armlets, anklets, and long vaijayanti garlands carved as individual blooms. Plan the installation before the stone arrives. A pair of this size with its pedestal runs to roughly ninety kilos, so the floor or platform needs to take a concentrated load and the route in — doorways, stairs, any turn — has to be checked first. Leave clearance behind the figures: the ornament is carved through in places and flattening the piece against a wall loses the depth you paid for. Diffused daylight or a soft wash from above suits Makrana better than a hard spotlight, which flares off the satin polish. Nothing here is stock.
