About This Piece
Among the many forms of Lord Murugan, the Shanmukha — also revered as Arumugam, the six-faced one — is the most majestic. Each of the six faces gazes outward in its own direction, watching over devotees on every side, while twelve arms bear the divine armoury: the Vel spear granted by his mother Parvati, the sword, discus, conch, bow and shield, alongside the abhaya-varada mudras that promise protection and grace. This 36-inch icon renders that grandeur in luminous Makrana white marble. Makrana marble has clothed the sanctums and monuments of India for centuries, prized for its dense, fine crystalline grain and the soft inner glow it takes on under lamp light. Hand-carved by the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur, every face here carries a serene, distinct expression, and the layered garlands, jewelled kirita crowns and pleated dhoti are worked in crisp relief. A soft satin polish keeps the stone reading as a warm natural white rather than a glassy mirror. At his side stands the peacock — Murugan's vahana — its plumage folded and its poise alert, a reminder of the Lord's mastery over pride and ego. The whole murti rises from a carved lotus base set on a tall pedestal, composed with the strict symmetry a temple icon calls for, so it reads as balanced and commanding from every angle. This Shanmukha Murugan is scaled for a temple sanctum, a community mandir, or a grand home altar that wants a presiding deity. As with everything at Tilak Mandirwala, it is made to order — size, finish and detailing can be tailored to your space, and we handle careful crating and delivery to your door. Aapki Kalpna, Hamari Rachna — your imagination, our creation.
