About This Piece

Lord Murugan — Kartikeya, the youthful warrior-god of the Tamil tradition — stands serene and single-faced in this hand-carved white marble icon, the divine Vel spear held upright in his right hand while his left rests at his hip in the graceful katyavalambita pose. Crowned with an ornate kirita-mukuta, draped with the sacred thread and a softly pleated dhoti, and adorned with layered garlands, he carries the calm authority of a god who is at once child, commander, and protector. The piece is carved from Makrana white marble, the same prized Rajasthani stone chosen for India's most enduring temples and monuments. Its fine crystalline grain takes a soft satin polish that lets light glow gently through the stone, so the folds of the dhoti, the beaded garlands, and the leaf-bladed Vel each read with quiet depth rather than glare. Every chisel transition is finished by hand, and faint tool marks in the recesses are left as honest evidence of a craftsman's work. At two feet tall and mounted on a lotus pedestal, this Murugan is scaled for the home pooja room — a devotional centrepiece that holds its own beside brass oil lamps yet remains intimate enough for daily darshan. The upright Vel and steady stance make it a natural focal point for a South Indian altar, whether flanked by diyas at dawn or garlanded for Thai Poosam and Skanda Shashti. Because each statue is made to order through our network of independent master sculptors in Jaipur, the finish, garland detail, and pedestal can be tailored to your shrine. It is a considered gift for a new home, a temple inauguration, or a family carrying the Murugan tradition across the diaspora — a piece meant to be worshipped for generations.
