About This Piece
A raised right palm in abhaya mudra and the gada resting against one shoulder give this Hanuman his calm, protective authority. He is carved from Makrana white marble, the close-grained stone quarried at Makrana in Rajasthan's Nagaur district and prized for centuries — the same marble the Mughal builders chose for the Taj Mahal. Its bright, faintly warm white and fine crystalline grain take detail cleanly, which is what lets the pearl garlands, the crown, and the individual chisel lines of the fur read so precisely at 24 inches. Each murti begins as a rough Makrana block that our Jaipur artisans reduce in stages — blocking the mass, establishing the standing posture, then carving the face, the folded dhoti, the mace and the curling tail by hand. The face, the palms and the drapery are always hand-finished; no machine touches them. Progressive hand-polishing brings the surface to a soft satin sheen that keeps the stone's natural grain visible rather than glazing it under a mirror gloss. Hanuman stands here in abhaya mudra, the gesture of fearlessness and blessing, with the gada — his mace and emblem of loyal strength — held upright at his side. The curling tail behind the feet and the simple dhoti mark him as the devoted servant of Ram rather than a fierce warrior form. This upright, blessing-hand posture is the one most often kept in North Indian home shrines, where Hanuman is invoked for courage, protection, and steady devotion. At 24 inches the statue suits a home mandir, a pooja shelf, or a dedicated altar niche where it can sit at eye level on a raised base. Hanuman is traditionally placed facing south, and a clear wall behind the murti lets the crown and halo read without visual clutter. The scale is generous enough to anchor a family shrine yet compact enough for an apartment pooja corner. We make each Hanuman to order and can adjust the height, switch to Vietnam white or black marble, or add an inscribed base for a housewarming or temple-installation gift.
