About This Piece

Most Radha-Krishna pairs arrive in white marble. This 30-inch jugal jodi goes the other way — cut in jet-black granite and polished until the stone behaves like still water. The contrast is the whole idea. Where a white pair reads soft and devotional, black reads still and deliberate, and the carving becomes legible not through colour but through the way light travels across it. Black granite is one of the very few stones that takes a true mirror polish. It is dense, non-porous and almost grainless, so a polished surface holds one long unbroken highlight down the pleats of Krishna's dhoti or the fall of Radha's sari instead of scattering it. Give the piece a single directional source — a niche spot, a picture light, a window on one side — and it resolves into clean lit planes and deep shadow. That is precisely why it settles into contemporary rooms where a white statue can look adrift. The iconography stays classical. Krishna stands in tribhanga, the gentle three-bend stance, his flute raised to his lips beneath a plumed mukut; Radha stands at his left with a lotus held in her raised hand, draped and jewelled in the Vrindavan manner, both framed by finely worked haloes. They rise from one shared rectangular plinth rather than two separate bases — the jugal jodi is understood as a single indivisible presence, and mounting them together keeps that reading intact wherever the piece is placed. At 30 inches the pair works as the focal point of a home mandir, a living-room console, or a niche built to hold it. Every piece is made to order: we design it with you — height, plinth profile, how deep the polish runs, whether the haloes are pierced or solid — brief the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur, and follow the work through to delivery at your door. Tell us the niche or shelf you have in mind and we will size the pair to it and share a quote.
