About This Piece
Dhan Lakshmi, the form that pours wealth
Most Lakshmi-Ganesh pairs show the goddess with her hands in blessing. This one carves the moment Diwali is actually about: from Lakshmi's lower hand a stream of coins falls into a small round pot on the base, each coin cut as a separate disc so the stream reads as movement rather than a solid column. That is Dhan Lakshmi, the abundance form invoked at Dhanteras when households buy metal and open new account books, and it is why this pair suits a Diwali altar so directly.
Beside her, Ganesh sits on the devotee's left as he does in the North Indian Diwali puja: four arms, a bowl of modaks in his lower hand, a lotus raised above, his trunk curving to his left toward the sweets and his mouse vahana resting at the foot of the throne. Lakshmi sits to his right in a fully draped sari and crown, lotuses in her upper hands and her other lower hand raised in blessing.
Makrana white marble with selective gold
The pair is hand-carved to order in Makrana white marble from Nagaur district in Rajasthan, the stone of the Taj Mahal: a bright natural white with a faint warm undertone and fine crystalline grain. The surface is taken to a soft satin polish that catches diya light without glare. Gold is used sparingly and only where it means something: on the coin stream, the rim of the pot and the edges of the crowns and jewellery. Everything else is left white, so the coins become the one point of colour the eye returns to during aarti.
Two murtis on one plinth, at altar scale
Each deity sits on an individual lotus throne about 18 inches tall, and the two thrones rise from a shared low plinth roughly 25 inches wide, so the pair stays aligned on the altar and travels as one composition. That suits a standard home mandir or a chowki in the puja room, with space in front for a thali, a row of diyas and a rangoli. Facing east or north-east follows the usual Vastu placement.
For Diwali, Dhanteras or a housewarming
This is a pair to install for Lakshmi puja on Diwali night and keep on the altar year-round, or to give a family moving into a new home in the festive season. The design is a starting point: we can adjust the height, carve the pair without gold, change the pot to a kalash, or set both deities on a single throne. Tell us your altar size and the date you are planning for, and we will brief the sculptors we work with in Jaipur and come back with a quote on WhatsApp.
