Makrana White Marble Ganesh with Riddhi and Siddhi, 24 in

Lord Ganesha sits at the centre of this hand-carved tableau, flanked by his two consorts — Riddhi, the goddess of prosperity and abundance, and Siddhi, the goddess of spiritual attainment and success. Together the three form the classic Riddhi-Siddhi Ganesh, one of the most auspicious household forms of the remover of obstacles, invoked at weddings, housewarmings and the start of every new venture. The central figure is carved four-armed and seated in the relaxed lalitasana posture. One hand is raised in the abhaya mudra of blessing and reassurance, while another cradles a modak, the sweet dumpling Ganesha is forever fond of, his trunk curving down toward it. The upper hands hold his traditional attributes, and at his feet sits the faithful mushak — the little mouse that carries him. Riddhi and Siddhi stand gracefully on either side, each bearing a lotus, crowned and draped in finely detailed jewellery and flowing garments. The piece is worked in Makrana white marble, the same prized Rajasthani stone favoured for temple sculpture for centuries. Tilak Mandirwala commissions each statue from independent master sculptors in Jaipur, who carve the block by hand and bring it to a soft satin polish that keeps the natural grain of the stone visible while giving the surface a gentle, luminous glow. Standing twenty-four inches tall, it is sized to anchor a home mandir or pooja room as a centrepiece, yet remains graceful enough for a console or entryway altar. Its serene symmetry and prosperity symbolism also make it a considered wedding or griha-pravesh gift for a new household. Each piece is made to order, so slight variations in grain and hand-tooling are natural marks of an authentic hand-carved marble sculpture rather than flaws.
