About This Piece
Seated in the relaxed lalitasana posture, this Ganesh rests one foot folded and the other lowered, his trunk curled gently toward the modak cradled in his hand — the sweet that stands for the rewards of a life lived well. At 18 inches, the murti carries a calm, approachable presence made for a family shrine: large enough to anchor the altar, modest enough to live comfortably on a mandir shelf or console. The stone is Makrana white marble, quarried in Rajasthan and prized for five centuries as the marble of the Taj Mahal and the Dilwara temples. Its brilliant neutral white carries a faint warm undertone that reads soft and luminous under a diya's glow, and its dense calcite grain ages without yellowing. Fine grey hairlines run subtly through the block — the honest signature of natural stone rather than any flaw. Our Jaipur artisans carve each piece by hand, working the modak, the curled trunk, the broad brow and the lotus base with chisel and rasp before finishing the surface to a matte, subtly grained glow. The ornaments across Ganesha's chest and the petals of the lotus are cut rather than moulded, so no two statues are ever quite identical. Ganesha is the remover of obstacles and the deity invoked at every beginning, which makes this murti a natural heart for daily pooja and a considered housewarming or griha-pravesh gift. Set it facing the room's entrance in the pooja room or home altar, keep a fresh lotus or a small brass diya beside it, and the piece settles quietly into the rhythm of the household. Makrana marble asks for little: a soft dry cloth to lift dust, and shade from harsh direct sun to keep its white pristine. Cared for simply, it will hold its serene character for generations.
