About This Piece
Hanuman kneeling, in readiness
Hanuman is shown down on his left knee with his right knee raised, the pose of a devotee who has just arrived in front of Ram and is ready to serve. His right hand is lifted in abhaya, the gesture of protection, and with his left hand he holds his gada upright against his shoulder. His tail rises behind him in a high arc over the head.
It is a calmer form than the flying or chest-opening Hanuman: alert and strong, but turned toward blessing rather than battle, which is why many families choose it for a home mandir.
Carving and colour
The stone is Vietnam white marble, polished to a soft shine. Gold is painted by hand on the tall crown, the necklaces, the armlets, the anklets and the edges of the sash that falls behind him, and it traces the ribs of the gada head and the petals carved around the base. His hair is tinted ochre, the tip of the tail is painted to match, and his face carries a red and white Vaishnava tilak with painted eyes.
The carved halo behind him, the figure and the rectangular base are one composition.
Size, and where it suits
The statue is 24 inches tall. Two feet is a good size for a home mandir where Hanuman is worshipped on his own, for a small temple, or near the entrance of a home, where he is traditionally placed as a protector. Painted gold is best cleaned with a soft dry cloth. Exact width, depth and weight are confirmed before dispatch.
