About This Piece

Vietnam white marble from the Da Nang quarries

This Lakshmi-Ganesh pair is carved from Vietnam white marble — the bright, clean-white calcitic stone quarried around Da Nang, where statuary has been an export craft for well over a century. Its cool, neutral tone sits a shade brighter than Rajasthani Makrana and reads especially well against the plain walls of a modern pooja room. Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are seated side by side, each on an individual lotus throne, in the canonical Diwali arrangement kept in North Indian homes.

Cutting the attributes by hand, and the Diwali pairing

At the Jaipur workshop we work with the two figures are worked as a set, so they mirror each other in scale and posture. The lotus bases and four-armed forms are roughed out first; then the crowns, ornaments and canonical attributes — Lakshmi's lotuses and pot of abundance, Ganesha's modak and raised blessing hand — are cut by hand. Faces, fingers and drapery are always hand-finished, never machine-touched. The marble then takes a smooth, export-grade satin polish that keeps the surface calm rather than glassy.

Lakshmi and Ganesha are installed together for Diwali and Dhanteras — Lakshmi for prosperity, Ganesha honoured first as the remover of obstacles. Convention seats Lakshmi to Ganesha's right, both in Padmasana on the lotus, the seat of purity. Each murti carries four arms and its traditional attributes, a form that has stayed remarkably stable across Rajasthani and wider North Indian workshops.

At 18 inches on a home altar

At 18 inches the pair anchors a home altar or a mid-tier home temple without crowding the room — large enough to centre a Diwali pooja thali, compact enough for an apartment shrine. The bright white stone sits cleanly beside brass diyas and marigold, and holds its colour under warm festive light. Leave a plain backdrop behind the pair so the detail on the crowns and lotus bases stays legible.

Available in Makrana and Vietnam white marble, and in sizes from 12 to 30 inches on commission. Message us on WhatsApp for stone samples or a shared-throne variant.
