About This Piece
Most Lakshmi-Ganesh pairs are carved as two separate murtis that happen to sit side by side. This one is a single piece: both deities share one lotus base, and one prabhavali arch rises behind them and closes overhead, its lotus-and-scroll border tying the two figures into a single composition. Lakshmi sits on the left with a lotus and a kalash, her free hand raised in abhaya; Ganesh sits on the right with a modak, his trunk curled to his left, his mouse carved at his feet. At 24 inches the arch reads almost as a small temple doorway framing them both. The stone is Vietnam White Marble, quarried in the Da Nang region where marble statuary has been a working craft for well over a century. It is a bright, clean, cool white — noticeably less creamy than Makrana — with a fine crystalline grain that holds sharp detail, which is what makes the pierced scrollwork of the prabhavali possible at this scale. A soft satin polish keeps the surface luminous without turning it glassy, so the jewellery, the drapery folds and the lotus petals all stay legible under a pooja lamp rather than washing out in glare. Tilak Mandirwala is a Jaipur curator rather than a factory: the piece is commissioned to order from independent master sculptors we have worked with for years. Figures, arch and stepped pedestal are worked from one block, so nothing is joined or pinned; the undercutting behind the scrollwork is done by hand with fine chisels, and the finish is graded — brighter across the faces and crowns, gently matte in the recesses. Faint tool marks remain visible on the unpolished faces, which is how a hand-carved murti tells itself apart from a cast one. A 24-inch pair suits a dedicated pooja room or a home temple where the murti is meant to be the focal point rather than one object among many. It is a common Dhanteras and Diwali commission, and a frequent choice as a housewarming or wedding gift for family abroad — pieces are crated and shipped internationally. Height, width, finish and the depth of the arch carving can all be adjusted to your altar; send us your niche dimensions on WhatsApp and we will quote the commission.
