Murugan — also known as Kartikeya, Skanda, and Subrahmanya — is the ever-youthful commander of the divine armies and the beloved Tamil god of Palani and Tiruchendur. This 30-inch piece renders him in his classic Mayil Vahana form: crowned and single-faced, poised atop his peacock mount in a composition that reads as both martial and serene. Every devotional marker is here. The Vel, the divine spear that is Murugan's constant identifier, rises in one hand; the other opens in abhaya mudra, the gesture of fearlessness and blessing. Beneath the peacock's foot coils the subdued serpent — the vanquished ego — while the bird's raised tail feathers fan out to form a natural prabhavali, a halo of carved plumage framing the deity.
