About This Piece

Murli Manohar — "the one who enchants with his flute" — is Krishna at his most beloved: standing in the gentle three-fold tribhanga bend, flute raised to his lips, a peacock feather rising from his crown. This four-foot statue captures that stance in full, then brings it to life the way temple murtis have been finished for centuries — entirely by hand. Carved first from a solid block of Makrana white marble, the figure is then finished in traditional polychrome. The complexion is painted the deep blue of the monsoon sky, the pitambar dhoti a bright silken yellow, and the crown, jewellery and flute picked out in fine gold detailing. Garlands, ornaments and the peacock feather are coloured with the same patient brushwork, so no two pieces are ever exactly alike. Makrana marble — the same stone behind the Taj Mahal — gives the murti its weight and permanence. Beneath the paintwork the stone is dense and cool to the touch, carved to hold crisp detail in the fingers on the flute, the folds of the dhoti, and the feathers of the crown. At four feet, this is a statement piece — sized for a temple sanctum, a large home mandir, or as the centrepiece of a Janmashtami celebration. Krishna in his Murli Manohar form is invoked for love, joy and harmony in the home, and this hand-painted rendering is made to preside over daily aarti and festival worship alike. Every statue is made to order by our karigars, and the dimensions, painting palette and finishing can be adjusted to suit your space. Reach out on WhatsApp to discuss a custom commission.
