About This Piece

This 30-inch Ram-Sita Vivah pair captures the wedding moment of the Ramayana — Bhagwan Ram and Devi Sita standing together in the varmala garland-exchange. Ram holds his bow with the quiver at his shoulder in royal-ascetic dress, while Sita stands to his left holding a lotus. Both are crowned with the mukut and framed by carved prabhavali halos, joined by the flowing wedding garland that binds the pair. The pair is hand-carved from Sagyin White Marble, the canonical Burmese statuary stone quarried in the Sagyin Hills near Mandalay and worked in the carving village of Kyauk Sit Tan for close to two centuries. It reads as a soft, milky white with a cool bluish undertone — gentler than the bright Vietnam white and never warm-cream like Makrana. Faint grey streaks and light cloudy zones are not faults but the prized 'movement in the stone' of the Burmese tradition, and the semi-translucent calcite lets light glow softly back from the edges. Finished to a soft satin polish, the piece keeps the hand of the master carver visible: fine chisel and rasp detail in the jewellery, the pleats of the dhoti and sari, and the intricate lotus-petal plinth. Sagyin marble's slightly softer grain takes this fine detailing beautifully, giving the drapery and garlands their delicate, lace-like carving. Ram and Sita as a Vivah pair are revered as the ideal of marital harmony — Maryada Purushottam and his devoted consort — making this a considered choice for a premium home mandir or as a wedding gift. Vastu tradition places Ram-Sita in the north-east or east of the pooja room, at heart-to-eye height on a plinth or chowki, facing the seated devotee. Every Tilak Mandirwala piece is made to order through our curated network of independent master sculptors in Jaipur, inspected for quality before it reaches your home.
