Shrinathji, Yamunaji and Mahaprabhuji Marble Set, 18 in

Makrana marble comes out of the Nagaur district quarries in Rajasthan that have supplied Indian stone carving for centuries — the same seam the Taj Mahal was built from. It reads a bright natural white with a faint warm undertone over a fine, compact crystalline grain, and that grain is what lets a carver hold a seven-year-old's face at this scale without the detail going soft. All three pieces in this set are cut from stone chosen together, so the trio matches in tone instead of looking like three murtis assembled from whatever was on hand. The set is carved to order for you by the master sculptors we work with in Jaipur. Each figure starts as its own rough block — the arched stele and Shrinathji from one, Yamunaji and Mahaprabhuji from theirs — and then moves through primary shaping, detail carving and progressive hand-polishing to a satin finish. Faces, fingers, the beaded garlands and the folds of the drapery are finished entirely by hand; no machine touches them. Because the three are worked as a single commission, the sculptor keeps the crowns, garland work and base mouldings consistent across the set. Shrinathji is the Nathdwara swaroop of Krishna as a child of about seven, his left arm raised aloft as he lifted Govardhan and his right hand closed in a fist at the waist. Serving him alongside Yamunaji, the river goddess the tradition holds as its mother figure, and Shri Vallabhacharya — Mahaprabhuji, who established the Pushtimarg in the sixteenth century — is how a Vaishnav household actually keeps its mandir: the swaroop, the giver of grace, and the acharya who taught the seva. Note that the raised arm is his own left, so it falls on your right as you stand before him. At 18 inches the set sits comfortably on a standard home mandir shelf and wants roughly 30 inches of clear width so the three figures are not crowded. Yamunaji stands to Shrinathji's right and Mahaprabhuji is seated to his left, the arrangement used in Nathdwara-style haveli mandirs. One diya at the front, or a small pair, is enough light — Makrana takes warm lamplight well, and the satin polish carries it without glare. Sizes run from 12 to 36 inches, and the same trio can be made in Vietnam white marble or cast marble dust if the shelf or the budget calls for it.
