About This Piece
Ganesh on a singhasan, in bare white stone
This Ganesh sits on a carved singhasan, a throne with rounded bolsters and scrolled legs, his right foot on a small footstool. In his upper hands he holds a mace and a stylised lotus. The lower right hand is raised in abhaya, and the lower left holds a bowl of sweets that the trunk curls down to reach.
A heavy garland of carved flowers hangs from his neck to his lap, and it is the detail that sets this piece apart from the other Ganesh murtis on this site. His mouse sits at the right-hand corner of the base, beside the footstool.
Why it has no paint
Most white marble Ganesh murtis are finished with a painted tilak, eyes and a line down the trunk. This one has none. Every feature, from the eyes to the crown to the garland, is carved and left as bare Vietnam white marble, polished to a soft shine. Some families prefer exactly that, because it lets them dress the murti with their own tilak and flowers, and because the stone reads as one clean colour in a white or pale pooja room.
The figure, the throne and the rectangular base are worked as one piece of design, with carved scrollwork along the front of the plinth.
Size, and where it suits
The statue is 24 inches tall. At two feet it sits well on a home mandir platform or a pooja room shelf, and it is a substantial gift for a griha pravesh. It is heavy for its size and needs a firm, level surface. Exact width, depth and weight are confirmed before dispatch.
