About This Piece

This standing Ganesh is hand-carved from a single block of Vietnam white marble, a bright, cool-toned stone prized for its clean porcelain-white body and fine crystalline grain. Standing 30 inches tall in samabhanga on a full-bloomed lotus base, the four-armed Vighnaharta rises with a quiet, upright presence — a form suited to an entryway or a spacious home mandir where a taller murti anchors the space. Each of the four hands carries meaning. The lower right is raised in abhaya mudra, the gesture of fearlessness and blessing that greets everyone who crosses the threshold. The upper hands hold the ankusha (goad) and the pasha (noose) — the tools that guide the devotee forward and gently restrain worldly attachment — while the lower left cradles a bowl of modak, the sweet Ganesha is beloved for. At his feet sits the mushak, his faithful mouse vahana, gazing up in devotion. Finished to a soft satin polish, the marble keeps its natural luminosity: light sinks a little into the translucent stone and glows back at the thin edges of the crown, the ears, and the folds of the dhoti. The jewellery, the mukut, and the layered garland are worked in crisp relief by hand, each chisel pass left honest rather than buffed flat — the mark of a piece carved by a master sculptor rather than machined. As the remover of obstacles and the lord of beginnings, Ganesha is traditionally installed first in any home shrine and invoked at the start of every new venture. At 30 inches this standing form reads well from across a room, making it a natural centrepiece for a Griha Pravesh, a new mandir, or a devotional gift kept for generations.
